Woman dies in New South Wales town of Casino


A man has been arrested after a woman’s body was found.

Police were called to a home on Johnston Street, Casino, following reports of a concern for welfare at 2.30am on Saturday.

Officers assisted the woman; however, she died at the scene.

The woman, who is believed to be aged in her 40’s, has not yet been formally identified.

A 31-year-old man, believed to be known to the woman, has been arrested.

Police have declared a “critical incident” on Saturday afternoon.

“A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Tweed/Byron Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident – including all aspects of the response from NSW Police,” police said.

“That investigation will be subject to an independent review.”

A crime scene has been established. The state homicide squad is investigating with Richmond officers.

Police urge anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

Northern police region Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna is expected to provide more information at a press conference at 3pm on Saturday.
