SA Police arrest man after Elizabeth train rampage

A young man has terrorised passengers on a suburban rail line after allegedly going on a deranged rampage, spitting blood and punching people.

The chaos hit a citybound commuter train in Elizabeth, in Adelaide’s outer north, about 11.30am on Friday, when the young man allegedly roamed up and down a carriage, assaulting three people and spitting blood.

A husband and wife, speaking with 7News, said they had been victims of the alleged attack.

“He had a go at us and then he spat at us and then he walked down and came back and grabbed my husband,” the woman said.

Her husband, sitting with a bruised eye, said the man “spat blood” at him.

“He spat blood in my face and belted me,” he said.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the Elizabeth South railway station after the citybound train stopped there.

“A 27-year-old Elizabeth Downs man was arrested at the station and charged with three counts of assault and affray,” the police said on Friday afternoon.

“He was bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on August 16.

“He was also issued a three-month transit barring order.”

The violence delayed the train for about 30 minutes but it has since resumed normal services.
