A warning has been issued after a man revealed his wrist received a painful burn from persistent wearing of his watch.
The man reported the problem online on Tuesday after his Garmin Forerunner 945 left him with an unsightly red blister, seemingly acquired from some kind of burn.
“One day my arm was itchy and I took it off in my truck and it was red blistered,” the man, based in Indiana, in the United States, said.
He shared a photo of what his arm looked like a week after he first noticed the burn.
An oval-shaped red mark could be seen on the top of his wrist, where the watch’s sensors would typically sit.
The man revealed the watch company had sent him a new watch as compensation.
“Garmin sent me a brand new 945 because my last one burned a hole in my arm! Let’s try the other arm,” he said.
Of the dozens of people to respond, some claimed they too had sustained a burn from frequent use of the watch.
“I actually had the same thing happen to me on the [Forerunner] 935. So crazy. I had to stop wearing it when wet. I switched back and forth a bunch until it finally stopped. Now I have a 945, no issues,” one person responded.
“I had a [Garmin] Fenix. Had a similar issue, not as bad though. Just a noticeable difference right beneath,” another said.
Several suggested the man may have been having a reaction to the watch’s band.
“I’ve known multiple people that have developed a similar looking mark, but it was all due to a reaction to the band,” one wrote.
The man later added the company suggested he may have been wearing it too tight or for too long in the water.
“They told me it might be to tight. Or maybe I’d been wearing it to long, in the shower. But I think the charging port needs a cover,” he said.
Someone suggested he buy a small plug to place over the charging port.
“I have used this little adaptation for years on my Fenix watches – never had an issue. It’s simply a silicon ‘plug’ that was part of a whole cover thing I got off the net,” they wrote.
