The Project recruits Michael Hing & Sam Taunton

The Project has announced its new panel line-up but some fans are claiming that it is too late to save the show.

On Sunday 10’s flagship show announced that Triple J’s Michael Hing and comedian Sam Taunton would be joining the news and current affair show.

Regular co-host Georgie Tunny will also be part of the panel alongside Sarah Harris, Hamish Macdonald and Waleed Aly. Steve Price and Tommy Little were not mentioned in the rebrand and are assumedly not returning for 2023.

Taunton, who has previously appeared as a guest contributor on The Project, will take on Monday to Thursday nights while Triple J Drive host and podcaster Hing will do the Friday to Sunday shift.

Hing and Taunton are clearly 10’s attempt at capturing the youth audience by hiring some fresh talent. However, the online reaction to the news was mixed with plenty of fans claiming they weren’t impressed with the new additions.

On Instagram one user commented, “I’ll be watching paint dry!” Another commented “I am curious why there are 4 men and 2 women?”

Meanwhile on Twitter someone commented, “seems no one is excited for the new line-up at The Project.”

While another commented, “one look at the photo and yep that isn’t going to work!” Another commented, “holy shit this show is doomed!”

The Project has been faced with a mass exodus this year. Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar all left the long-running show.

Hing and Taunton now have the tough job of filling in some very big shoes and winning over audiences.

The revamped Project will return on January 8.
