Streets in a regional city west of Brisbane have been locked down as police negotiate with a man believed to be armed.
An emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was made by Queensland Police over an incident taking place in Newtown, a suburb of Toowoomba.
Officers were due to execute a search warrant at a Park St property at 10.45am on Wednesday.
But on arrival, police began negotiating with a man, who is believed to be with another man, inside the residence.
Police allege one of them is in possession of a firearm.
The emergency declaration was made at midday, encompassing Tor St, Park St and Dalmany St.
Residents within the exclusion zone must remain indoors, a Queensland Police spokesman said.
Motorists travelling in the area must stay out of the exclusion zone while emergency services respond.
Traffic diversions are in place.
More to come.
