Bailey Jones: Dominic Saliba charged with murdering cousin

A teenage boy who died in what was previously thought to be a freak accident was allegedly killed by his own cousin, according to the police.

Bailey Jones, 18, died on December 9 after suffering a stab wound at a party in Bomaderry, on the New South Wales south coast.

Witnesses said Mr Jones was playing with a knife in the driveway before he tripped and fell onto the blade in a freak accident.

At the time, police said their “eyes are open to all possibilities”.

And officers have now arrested Mr Jones’ cousin Dominic Saliba, 20, and have charged him with murder, the Daily Telegraph reported.

He is also charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and not safely storing a firearm.

Saliba faced Nowra Local Court on Friday and his case was adjourned until February, meaning he will face Christmas behind bars.

Mr Jones was farewelled on Friday in a moving ceremony at a church in Sydney.

His half-brother Adam Micallef spoke of his heartbreak.

“In one of our last conversations, Bailey was telling me he wants to come play footy with whatever team I am on next year so that we could play a season together,” Mr Micallef said.

“I will never get that opportunity. I will never play footy with my little brother.”
