The ban opened the door for former Australian Test skipper Tim Paine to return to the Big Bash for the first time in almost five years.

Wade will now miss the Hurricanes contest against the Melbourne Renegades at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

“Hobart Hurricanes player Matthew Wade has been suspended for one KFC Big Bash League match,” a Big Bash statement read.

“Wade received one suspension point after incurring three Level 1 Code of Conduct breaches within 18 months. The charges in that period relate to two instances of use of an audible obscenity and one instance of abuse of cricket equipment.

“Wade is suspended from today’s KFC BBL|12 match between the Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades at Blundstone Arena, Hobart.”

Paine was added to the Hurricanes squad and came into the final line-up, replacing Ben McDermott, who was rested

Paine’s last match in the Hurricanes’ famous purple shirt came on February 4 in 2018 when Hobart took on the Adelaide Strikers.

But the former Australian Test captain didn’t last too long at the crease as the Hurricanes’ batting line-up collapsed.

Paine scored 10 off 12 balls as the Renegades bowled the Hurricanes out for 122.

“Given the close proximity to match time, no further comment will be made on this matter.”

Wade drew the ire of South African star Faf du Plessis after he shouted “bowled” just before he was able to play a shot. It resulted in du Plessis losing his wicket.

Du Plessis looked visibly angry at Wade, as the latter ran off to celebrate with his teammates after the wicket.
