Brittany Higgins shares Christmas gift from hundreds of fans

Brittany Higgins has shared a series of heartwarming photos from her Christmas Day celebrations including touching presents.

The former political staffer recently received a confidential settlement sum from the Commonwealth government over her intention to sue for sexual harassment.

The rape charge against Bruce Lehrmann was dropped last month after his trial was thrown out over juror misconduct and a retrial of the case was scrapped after prosecutors deemed the risk to Ms Higgins’ mental health presented a “significant and unacceptable” risk to her life.

Mr Lehrmann has strenuously denied the allegation.

Now the recently graduated Griffith University alumni has shared a heartwarming series of photos to her 57.6K followers to thank them for their “overwhelming” show of support.

“Merry Christmas! I’ve been so overwhelmed this morning after being inundated with letters of solidarity and support,” she shared on Christmas morning.

“Thank-you to everyone who wrote — expect a response in the mail early next year!”

She went on to thank the team at the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership at the Australian National University for “vetting each letter by hand”.

“I’ll forever be grateful to you all,” she said.

“From my family to yours, sending lots of love and well wishes this festive season x.”

On Wednesday morning, the ACT Attorney-General Shane Rattenbury and Chief Minister Andrew Barr announced an independent inquiry into the Lehrmann trial.

When the announcement was made, Higgins reacted with a brief message to her followers: “Sunlight is the best disinfectant”.

In a statement released by his legal team shortly after the announcement, on his behalf, Mr Lehrmann said he welcomed the inquiry and hoped it would be in-depth.
