NBA news 2022: Anthony Davis injury, Los Angeles Lakers, standings, how long is he out for

The Los Angeles Lakers have been dealt a crushing blow after confirming superstar Anthony Davis will be out “indefinitely” with a stress injury in his right foot.

Davis initially had been expected to miss approximately a month of action after suffering the injury against the Denver Nuggets last Saturday, however the time frame has now been extended.

“After extensive consultation with team physicians and outside specialists, it has been determined that Anthony Davis has a stress injury in his right foot,” the Lakers said in a statement.

“Davis will be out indefinitely. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.”

The 29-year-old hurt himself in the process of scoring a layup past the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and immediately hobbled off.

He has not played since that game.

However, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Davis is in better shape than when the injury first occurred and there is renewed hope the recovery process won’t be too drastic.

“The pain has subsided in past several days in Anthony Davis’ foot and he’s expected to rest it for another seven to ten days and have it re-evaluated and see if he can return to play,” Wojnarowski posted on Twitter.

“For now, there’s hope that a procedure can be avoided.”

Davis has been in strong form for the Lakers this season, averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game.

However, LeBron James and the rest of the team must find a way to win without Davis, something they struggled with last season as they went 16-27 when Davis was sidelined with MCL and right ankle injuries.
