Smiths, Red Rooster release new Reds Fried Chicken Burger chip flavour

Smith’s has teamed up with an iconic Australian fast-food outlet to create arguably the Aussiest chip ever.

Red Rooster and the chip brand have joined forces to rustle up the “Crinkle Reds Fried Chicken Burger”.

The new chip flavour is rolling out in supermarkets across the country this week – and according to Red Rooster, tastes just like the popular chicken shop menu item.

“When ‘The Rooster’s Calling’ to satisfy your chicken cravings we answer, that’s why when the opportunity to partner with Smith’s came up, we couldn’t say no” Ashley Hughes, the brand’s marketing director, said.

“To us, nothing sums up the Rooster’s Call better than our iconic Reds Burger. We can’t wait to share our flavours with Aussies in this new and very craveable way.”

The collaboration is one of three the chip manufacturer is making with popular food outlets as part of its “Smith’s Taste Icons range”.

Subway and Mad Mex are also on board, with the sandwich chain creating three new flavours as part of the promotion, alongside a spicy offering from the Mexican restaurant.

Sam O’Donnell, marketing manager at Smith’s, said it was the brand’s “biggest collaboration yet”.

“We’re really excited to be partnering with three iconic restaurants – Subway, Mad Mex and Red Rooster for the launch of what is our biggest brand collaboration yet,” she said.

“Smith’s is famous for its flavours, so of course we jumped at the opportunity to bring a unique range of flavours to life on our iconic crinkle cut chips.”

While the Red Rooster offering is sure to be a favourite among, Aussies can also give the “Mad Mex Double Crunch Hot Sauce” flavour a go.

Both are available at retailers nationally in both 80g and 150g bags.

Subway fans are in for a treat with the launch of a variety of different flavours based on their famous sangas launching – but they’ll need to be dedicated to sampling them if they want to try all three.

The Subway “Crinkle Meatball Sub” is only available at Coles in 150g bags, while its “Crinkle Pizza Sub” come in the same share size at Woolworths.

Smith’s x Subway “Crinkle Chicken Teriyaki Sub” has two sizes, 45g and 150g, but is exclusive to independent retailers.

Subway’s head of marketing in Australia and New Zealand, Rodica Titeica, said the food outlet was committed to “providing iconic quality and taste”.

“Our freshly baked subs are a delicious and filling meal option for breakfast, lunch and dinner but we know there can be key snacking periods in between and partnering with Smith’s allows Aussies to access the Subway flavours they know and love in another form.”

Clovis Young, CEO and founder of Mad Mex described the collaboration as an incredible “opportunity”.

“When we were approached by Smith’s to partner on a Mad Mex Hot Sauce infused chip, we jumped at the opportunity,” he said.

“We knew that by combining Smith’s product development expertise and our world-famous Mad Mex hot-sauce, we would come up with something truly special for our amigos. The end result will impress even the toughest of food critics.”

Packets have barely begun hitting supermarket shelves and already social media is blowing up over the “exciting” new Smith’s additions.

“Got to try them all,” one declared, as another wrote: “I’d buy one of each.”

Smith’s Taste Icons are priced at $4.30 for a 150g bag.
