A popular milk company has recalled a range of pouring cream products from supermarkets over fears batches could be contaminated with E. coli.
Fleurieu Milk Company recalled its pouring cream in 300ml, 1L, 2L and 10L sizes after it discovered the potential microbial contamination.
The recalled batches have use-by dates of April 6, April 7 and April 8.
The South Australian-bsed company issued the voluntary recall as a precaution.
“On learning of the potential contamination of these products, we took what we believe is the
responsible decision by immediately initiating a voluntary recall,” general manager Nick
Hutchinson said.
“Production has now resumed and the products will be returning to the shelves now that we know it is safe to do so.
“We are deeply sorry for disruption caused to our customers.”
The company is working with DairySafe and SA Health to investigate
the potential microbial contamination.
All items were sold at Woolworths, IGA and independent food retailers in South Australia and independent food retailers in Victoria, NSW and the Northern Territory.
Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said products “contaminated with E. coli may cause illness if consumed”.
The food safety watchdog advised customers to return the recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Any consumers concerned about their health are also being encouraged to seek medical advice.
