KFC fans are in hysterics over a viral photo of a KFC all-you-can-eat buffet, with many calling for one in their suburb.
The post has transformed into something of a social media movement, as dozens of fans call for the return of fast food buffets popular in KFC restaurants in the 1990s and early 2000s.
One fan kickstarted the push when she shared a photo of an all-you-can-eat KFC buffet in WA.
“KFC. Bring back the all-you-can-eat buffet,” the woman posted to the Old Shops Australia Facebook page, which is dedicated to “Aussie consumer nostalgia and retro retail memories”.
“South Lake WA — closed the buffet in early 2000s.”
Hundreds of people reacted to the post, with many calling for the buffets’ return.
“I’d smash a KFC buffet. We need it back badly,” one person wrote.
“Damn I miss these,” said another.
Some commenters said they had never heard of a KFC buffet, with one saying he felt “ripped off”.
“Wow, never knew that was even a thing,” said one. “I’m not surprised that would have failed. So many people would ‘eat the place out’,”
“Never knew they existed!” added another.
Others shared their memories of visiting KFC buffets in Australia many years ago.
“Ahhh KFC All-You-Can-Eat at Bondi Junction. $8.95 — where I chose to eat ONLY the skin off 6 pieces (because I could), downed it down with unlimited gravy and then proudly threw up!” laughed one.

Another wrote: “1995/96 Jamisontown, NSW. 8.95 — I put on 14kg in my second year of uni.”
In January, another member of the group shared an image of Pizza Hut’s old-school all-you-can-eat buffets, of which there are still a few scattered around the country.
The man shared an image of a buffet stand in the middle of a Pizza Hut restaurant in Windsor, NSW, which was still seemingly decked out in the same classic ‘90s decor.
He said he had visited the buffet recently and it was “pretty good”.
“Some nice deep-pan pizza with actual cooked bases. So many of my recent takeaway deep-pan pizza bases have been doughy,” he wrote.
“Overall a pleasurable experience, but with an approx. 1 hr travel time in each direction, not one I will be repeating in a hurry.”
“Oh I wish they’d bring these eateries back in service. They were real social spots,” one person commented.
