Bunnings recall: Drano Max Gel bathroom drain cleaner recalled over fears it can cause severe burns

A popular cleaning product sold at Bunnings has been recalled over fears the faulty bottle cap could cause irritation and severe burns.

People who purchased the 1.2L Drano Max Gel bathroom drain cleaner at Bunnings, or on Amazon between April 14 and May 23 have been urged to “immediately stop using the product”.

The packaging issue could lead to leakage around the cap and the outside of the bottle, with Product Safety Australia warning the corrosive product could result in eye and breathing irritation, and severe burns to skin and mucous membranes, like the nose, mouth and airways.

The manufacturers, SC Johnson & Son, have advised people to keep the product away from young children and pets, and to wear gloves if handling a faulty product to protect against leakage.

Drain cleaners most at risk of the fault feature the SKU code of 319263 and have a use by date of October 31, 2024. Customers can head to the Dano website, which features a ‘Check My Product’ tool to help customers obtain a full refund.

Product Safety Australia said customers who have more than one bottle to claim should contact SC Johnson & Son by phone 1800 801 869 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, or via the website’s web form.
