British Airways serves KFC after alleged catering blunder


Passengers — including business class — onboard a British Airways flight had a finger lickin’ experience after they were randomly served KFC.

The major airline allegedly had some catering issues on its 12-hour flight from Turks and Caicos Islands to London — which meant all the food had to be thrown out.

After the plane landed in Nassau, in the Bahamas, for a stopover, the crew arranged alternative catering – several buckets of chicken from KFC

“With limited options available at the airport, our teams sprung into action and made sure our customers onboard our flight had something to eat,” a British Airwars spokesperson told news.com.au.

“We apologise to customers that their full meal service was not available and that we had to wing it on this occasion.

“Additionally, travellers were provided with a refreshment voucher upon landing.”

News.com.au understands staff opted for the fast-food as an alternative as there were limited options available in the airport.

It wasn’t just economy passengers that got fried chicken, so did business class with an Instagram video showing cabin crew holding KFC buckets and handing out chicken legs to everyone on board.

However, while some saw the humour it, others, including those on-board the flight were left furious.

The user who shared the clip claimed flight attendants handed out one chicken leg per passenger, describing it as an “absolute disgrace”.

“They then said they would be handing out vouchers as we let the plane which myself and travel partner never received,” they continued.

“Absolute disgrace how do you forget the catering for a 12 hour flight?”

Twitter user Andrew bailey, who was also on the flight, claimed he was told the chilling container with food failed on the plane and so, “it all (got) thrown away”.

Others came in swinging in defence of the British airline saying staff did their best in a situation that wasn’t their fault.

“As someone who is a flight attendant with a different airline, I can understand the frustration that the crew must have gone through to try and come up with a solution. However, it was the fault of the catering company, not British Airways,” one person tweeted.

An Instagram user also applauded cabin crew, adding they “did their best with what they had available”.

“Yeah, one piece of chicken isn’t much on a 12 hour flight, but that’s why I ALWAYS have my own snacks in my carry on. Grownups take responsibility for themselves … BA didn’t FORGET the food, there was a catering foul up and the food hadn’t been refrigerated. Again, stuff happens. Would you rather have been fed food that might have made you ill?”
