A young electrician, killed while working in the roof space of a home, is being remembered as “a beloved son, brother and husband.”
Matthew Milner, 24, was found dead after being electrocuted while working at a home in the northern suburb of Nollamara in Perth on Saturday morning.
His death has prompted warnings from safety regulators, and emotional tributes from family and friends on social media.
“Always and forever my boy,” Matthew’s wife Monique wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a selfie of the pair smiling together on a beach.
“Watch over me whilst I live out the life we were meant to live together.”
The couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary in April.
His eldest brother Johnathan said Matthew made sure everyone was constantly laughing.
“Words cannot describe the heartache we suffer knowing you have been called home to God at only a moment’s notice, without a proper chance for us to say goodbye to you,” Jonathan wrote on Facebook on Sunday.
“It pains me to know your laughs, your jokes, our time together as four brothers and a family will now only be memories.”
Matthew’s father-in-law Martin Stanford said he was proud to call him son-in-law, and having him “taken away so suddenly hurts beyond belief.”
“I don‘t have the words to express how profoundly you changed our lives by making [daughter Monique] so happy.”
Western Australia’s Director of Energy Safety Saj Abdoolakhan said investigations into the incident are underway.
“Our focus is on determining how this tragedy occurred and whether electricity was a factor,” Mr Abdoolakhan said, urging electricians to make sure mains power is switched off before working on a property.
“This is required by law for any worker entering the roof space of a home due to the potential electrical hazards,” he said.
It’s understood Mr Milner, who also worked as a DJ, had been a qualified electrician for less than a year when he was killed.
An online fundraiser was created on Monday morning, seeking $10,000 to cover funeral costs and assist Monique.
