Queensland Government offering $1000 rebates to replace old household appliances

Thousands of Queensland households are eligible for up to $1000 in rebates by replacing everyday appliances with newer, energy-efficient ones.

The State Government has started offering the major cash grants if they upgrade household items like fridges and dishwashers to more energy-efficient versions.

Acting Premier Steven Miles said the package was an additional cost of living relief option.

As part of its $22m million Climate Smart Energy Savers Program, the government will offer rebates to households that buy and install eligible appliances with a four star or higher energy rating.

People can submit an application for a rebate online with a copy of the receipt for any eligible device.

Energy star ratings for appliances can be found on energyrating.gov.au.

The government says that as well as the instant cash boost available under the scheme, switching to more efficient appliances will help lower energy bills.

“Not only does the Climate Smart Energy Savers program provide financial help when making an energy-efficient purchase, but Queensland households can expect to see significant savings off their electricity bills for years to come,” Acting Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mark Bailey said in a statement.

Not everyone was impressed with the offer.

“So we gotta some how find money to buy the appliances out of our pockets first. To then see IF we qualify to get a rebate,” one commenter wrote on Facebook.

There will be two types of rebate available under the scheme, starting at $300 to install a new washing machine and up to a maximum of $1,000 for a new solar hot washing machine.

Standard rebates will be available to all eligible Queensland households, whereas higher rebates will be available for households with a taxable income of below $66,667.
