Security guard dies after alleged assault at Royal Hotel in Sydney’s Sutherland


A security guard has died after an alleged assault at a hotel in Sutherland in Sydney’s south.

Emergency services were called to the Royal Hotel on East Parade about 2am on Sunday, following reports a security guard had been assaulted.

Officers found the man, believed to be aged in his 30s, unconscious outside the pub.

Police performed CPR before the man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he died at the scene.

The man has yet to be formally identified.

Police were told the security guard was allegedly punched in the head by a patron following an altercation.

It’s alleged the man had been requested to leave the venue prior to the assault.

A 31-year-old has been taken to Sutherland police station where he’s “assisting police with inquiries”.

The hotel has been cordoned off and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
