Man’s rant about cost of popular Macca’s item

A social media user has expressed outrage over the cost of his soft drink at Macca’s as he compared the Australian experience to that of the United States.

Daniel Amos, who goes by Fleece King online, said he was at a Macca’s in Sydney and wanted to “express his outrage” after buying a large Coke.

“This is probably a small in America. I’ve bought nothing else — other than this Coke — and it was $5.40,” he said.

“And guess what? Unlike America we don’t get free refills. So you buy this large Coke for $5.40 — and nothing else — and I don’t get any refills.

“That has to be one of the most ridiculous things.”

Man's rant about Aussie Macca's prices

He said he hoped people tuning in felt more grateful for what they have in their life when it comes to fast food options.

Many Australians echoed his complaints with one saying; “We get ripped off left, right and centre in Australia.”

“Welcome to Australia mate,” another said.

One said: “As an Aussie in Texas some places here give you free small cups for soda and free refills. Crazy.”

But not everyone agreed with Daniel’s interpretation of events.

“You want free refills? Go to Hungry Jack’s. Why complain at Macca’s,” one said.

Another added: “The best thing is you can find out what the price is and not buy it if you think it’s too expensive.”

“I paid $9 for a coffee in Auckland. What are you complaining about,” another asked.

A McDonald’s Australia spokesperson replied to the anger.

“We’re committed to providing our customers with great value across our menu and exceptional service every day, whether that’s in our restaurants, drive-thru or McDelivery,” the spokesperson said.

:Customers can take advantage of our year-round Loose Change Menu, which offers great savings, with frozen beverages from $1, desserts from $1.50 and hamburgers from $2.

“We know our customers are watching every dollar they spend, and we’re committed to earning their visits by doubling down on the things that matter most to them. Whether that’s great value Macca’s Bundles to feed the whole family, Loose Change Meals, personalised offers through the MyMacca’s loyalty program, or through exciting new offers like our $5.95 Breakfast Offer, we will continue to delight and reward our customers.”

However, Daniel’s assertion about free refills at Macca’s restaurants in the United States isn’t completely accurate.

The fast food giant was planning on removing all self-serve beverage stations in the United States by 2032, CBS News reported.

This means customers won’t be able to pour their own drinks and it is up to individual restaurants on whether they want to allow free refills or charge for them.
