Kristen Bell is “very honest” with her kids – but telling them about doing hallucinogenic mushrooms recently “backfired” on the actress.
The Good Place star told Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday that one of her kids spilled the beans to her “more conservative” mum, Lorelei Bell, when she came to visit, Page Six reports.
“I overheard my daughter talking to my mum, to [her] grandma, going, ‘I’m actually really glad they share all this stuff with me. Anyway, mum really wanted to try mushrooms,’” Bell, 42, said.

The actress joked that she was “more worried” about her mother finding out about her drug use than daughters Lincoln, 9, and Delta, 7.
Bell clarified during the Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance that her children “fully know” what mushrooms are because their father, actor Dax Shepard, 46, is in recovery.
“He’s really honest about what alcohol does to your body. How it makes you feel funny and impairs things, and what drugs do to your body and why most drugs are illegal and all that stuff,” she said.
The star shared the story with Hypochondriactor podcast host Dr Priyanka Wali back in May 2021.
Shepard “babysat” his wife during the experience and took her for a walk around the block.
“I am very lucky to be married to an ex-drug addict,” Kristen joked at the time. “Not only did he know where to get the mushrooms … he got that really nice, quality, organic, set and setting, beautiful mushroom.”
She and the Armchair Expert podcast co-host often make headlines for their honest parenting style, including having a very honest conversation about Santa Claus.
Bell shared the “controversial” decision with Us Weekly in December 2018.
“I have a fundamental rule that I will never lie to them, which is challenging at times,” the star told the outlet at the time. “[We told them], ‘This is just a fun thing we pretend while it’s Christmas.’”
