Makeup artist Allie Shehorn stabbed by ex after she got restraining order

An award-winning Hollywood makeup artist and special effects producer known for her work on popular movies like Rebel Moon and Mean Girls has been fighting for her life in hospital after she was allegedly stabbed over 20 times by an ex-boyfriend.

Allie Shehorn was moved out of intensive care on Tuesday, The New York Post reports, nearly a week after her ex broke into her Shadow Hills, Los Angeles home and stabbed her repeatedly before fleeing.

Ms Shehorn, who had recently filed for a restraining order against the man, was found after the attack on Thursday by her surrogate mother, who said the bloody scene was not “a pretty sight”.

“This is not the kind of thing that should happen to anybody,” Christine White told KTLA.

“You don’t think this is ever going to happen to you. I found her and I had to go into the bathroom where it happened. That wasn’t a pretty sight.”

The 35-year-old suffered multiple slashes to her neck as well as cuts on her arms and abdomen during the assault.

Friends say Ms Shehorn has made tremendous progress in the days since.

An update to a GoFundMe for the makeup artist noted that she was moved out of the ICU on Tuesday, while an earlier update said that Ms Shehorn had started talking more and was eating once again.

“The fact that she was able to get through what she did that night and how fast she’s recovering really is amazing,” her friend, Christopher Wayne, told KTLA.

Another friend, Emily MacDonald, said Ms Shehorn has been in good spirits despite the circumstances, but that she likely has a lengthy hospital stay ahead.

“She’s been in really good spirits,” Ms MacDonald said.

“I feel like she’s comforting all of us, which is kind of how Allie is. Even when she’s at rock bottom, she’s still looking to see how she can lift other people up.”

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed Ms Shehorn’s alleged perpetrator fled the state after the violent attack.

According to Ms Shehorn’s friends, her ex-boyfriend was arrested in Texas near the US-Mexico border. He has not been publicly named.

The GoFundMe has been organised to help cover Ms Shehorn’s hospital bills.

The 35-year-old has worked on numerous popular films including the Rebel Moon movies, the Mean Girls musical remake, and Babylon.

She has also won several awards for her makeup and special effects work, specifically on horror movies, according to her IMDB page.

Just last year, she won “Best SFX Makeup” at the Hollywood Blood Horror Festival for her work on Incorrigible.

In 2022, she won the “Outstanding Achievement Award (Makeup and Hairstyling)” at the IndieX Film Festival for her work on The Last Altruist and in 2018 she won “Best Makeup Short Film” at the Five Continents International Film Festival for makeup in Goodnight, Gracie.
